rymunn Posted March 18, 2011 Report Posted March 18, 2011 hi people does any one know if i can get a sword polished in australia or there abouts Quote
sanjuro Posted March 18, 2011 Report Posted March 18, 2011 Thre are currently no properly trained (read Trained in Japan) polishers in Australia. There is one polisher currently finishing his training in Japan, who will be returning to Australia in about twelve months time. His name is Andrew Ickeringill. I already have him booked to polish two swords of mine. Worth the wait..... PM me for contact details etc. Quote
John A Stuart Posted March 18, 2011 Report Posted March 18, 2011 Hi Keith, You mention Andrew is returninmg to Oz after finishing his training. I was under the impression he had another 6 years to go before Sasaki sensei would give him his journeyman status. Is this just a break in study? I haven't written him for awhile, but, I know he was committed when I met him, however, 10 years is a long time. John Quote
sanjuro Posted March 19, 2011 Report Posted March 19, 2011 Hi John I spoke to Andrew about two months ago and was told he was returning to Australia in roughly 18 months. I dont know if this represents a break in his training or perhaps something has changed with regards to Sasaki sensei. I will however email him and find out a little more detail. My last contact with Andrew was just after the earthquake and tsunami, to find out if he was OK and as you can imagine, the conversation under the circumstances was fairly brief and did not include his future plans, since they were all still picking themselves up and taking stock of the damage to the workshop and Sasaki sensei's old house. I'll keep you posted when I can clarify the situation. Quote
John A Stuart Posted March 19, 2011 Report Posted March 19, 2011 Thanks Keith. I shall e-mail him and give him my best. John Quote
gtstcactus Posted March 21, 2011 Report Posted March 21, 2011 You could try here http://www.jigokustudios.com/ They are aussie based but use a guy James Jordan in NZ for polishing. Quote
sanjuro Posted March 21, 2011 Report Posted March 21, 2011 Be very careful who you recommend Jason. If you have no experience of jigoku studios then be doubly careful. You can inadvertantly lead someone else into a potentially disappointing experience. I have seen first hand some of their work on shirasaya and also some of their mounts and tsuka rebinds. .......... Very very ordinary and nowhere near the quality of a Japanese job..... Enough said. Quote
gtstcactus Posted March 21, 2011 Report Posted March 21, 2011 Just passing on what people on this board keep telling me to do... QUOTES REMOVED Quote
moss Posted March 21, 2011 Report Posted March 21, 2011 Jason, The nasty little habit of putting up "quotes" in every post is painful. Most of us do have some form of recognitive ability so therefore the quotes are superfluous. I know I should pussy foot around a little more so as not to upset your sensibilties ,just it feels like remedial reading class 101. Cheers Moss Quote
gtstcactus Posted March 22, 2011 Report Posted March 22, 2011 Moss, I don't particuarly find it annoying, I've got better things to worry about than people quoting others posts or not. I just skim over stuff I don't want to read, it's really quite easy, you should try it!. So lets stick to the topic at hand. Quote
moss Posted March 22, 2011 Report Posted March 22, 2011 Jason, I tried to give you a little helpful advice. Wether you take me up on it or not is your perogative. There is little I will learn by skim reading so I will continue with the way I read. Thanks for your input I will file it in the appropriate place. Moss Quote
Brian Posted March 22, 2011 Report Posted March 22, 2011 Jason, From Moss, it was a little helpful advice. From me, it is a direct request. And I say this to everyone who posts. Stop overusing the quote function. Use REPLY, not QUOTE. Unless the post you are replying to is back a few posts, or you are selectively quoting just a bit of the entire post, or there is a pressing need to quote..DO NOT DO IT. I find it irritating, and so do many others. It is bad manners on all forums, and although we can just skip over it, I prefer not to. Easier for me to ask people not to do it. Ok? Brian Quote
gtstcactus Posted March 22, 2011 Report Posted March 22, 2011 Moss, thanks for the helpful advice. Brian, I've responded to the advice in my wakizashi thread. Message received loud and clear. Quote
