Ford Hallam Posted March 14, 2011 Report Posted March 14, 2011 ...or is it even a real tsuba? Opinions and thought please. If you do know what this is please let the game run awhile :D Quote
Curgan Posted March 14, 2011 Report Posted March 14, 2011 The design looks like a kimono in a stand with the straw hat on top, can't imagine it on a sword though (or else it must have been owned by the most disreputable samurai). Quote
k morita Posted March 14, 2011 Report Posted March 14, 2011 Hi, I guess that the motif of this Tsuba(?) is "a balancing toy". (maybe wrong?). "a balancing toy"-----Japanese called "Yajirobei". Please scroll down this link. A TOY STORY http://www.printsofjapan.com/keisai_eisen1.htm http://blogimg.goo.ne.jp/user_image/66/ ... 3e094f.jpg Quote
Carlo Giuseppe Tacchini Posted March 14, 2011 Report Posted March 14, 2011 Seems to have never been mounted... And if it was a balancing toy with the shape of a tsuba ? Quote

Marius Posted March 14, 2011 Report Posted March 14, 2011 This is not a tsuba. It has no seppa dai. IMHO, of course Quote
drbvac Posted March 14, 2011 Report Posted March 14, 2011 Christmas tree ornament for Nihontophyles Quote
xxlotus8xx Posted March 14, 2011 Report Posted March 14, 2011 It's simply art. How seriously would a Samurai be taken when he pulls his katana and his tsuba is this? The laughter would be endless I think. Quote
John A Stuart Posted March 15, 2011 Report Posted March 15, 2011 If it isn't a toy, my guess is a plate found on kimonodansu. John Quote
Henry Wilson Posted March 15, 2011 Report Posted March 15, 2011 Whilst trying to get into work today, I had to take a number of detours. Looking out the window of bus I noticed the following: Quote
Ford Hallam Posted March 15, 2011 Author Report Posted March 15, 2011 Well Gentlemen we can debate whether it is a real tsuba or not, and remember that not all tsuba were used by samurai, but this one does appear to have been made by a real tsuba-ko. It's signed Umetada Shigeyoshi! :D The design is described as a hat and kimono on a drying rack. I came across it here. The Inverclyde Council website. It's part of the collection of tsuba held by the Mclean Museum and Art Gallery. Quote
Baka Gaijin Posted March 15, 2011 Report Posted March 15, 2011 Good morning Ford Excellent link For the benefit of the vertically challenged like me, there are four page links way down at the bottom of the Nav bar on the left. Cheers Malcolm Quote
Curgan Posted March 15, 2011 Report Posted March 15, 2011 remember that not all tsuba were used by samurai He must have been a jolly little fella, if you get my point Quote
