gtstcactus Posted March 4, 2011 Report Posted March 4, 2011 Hey people, I am interested in books on Japanese Gunto, and other military blades such as naval dirks etc, police sabres, civilian daggers etc. I'm interested in any good books on the subject... 2 that I know of are: Japanese Military and Civil Swords and Dirks Military Swords of Japan 1868-1945 by Richard Fuller and Ron Gregory Are these books good? Do they contain a lot of info or are they just pictorials? I'm quite interested in old blades or I guess nihonto mounted in military mounts and any info that I can find on the practice. Can anyone suggest other good books on the subject? Quote
drbvac Posted March 4, 2011 Report Posted March 4, 2011 Both are good - lots of explanation and pix - Fuller and Gregory is well known for its excellence on these blades . I had them both at one time - I'll check - I think I sold them Quote
k morita Posted March 5, 2011 Report Posted March 5, 2011 Hi, The following two books are also good books. [swords of imperial Japan, 1868-1945, Cyclopedia Edition] by Jim Dawson. [An Oshigata Book of Modern Japanese swordsmiths 1868-1945] by Jhon Scott Slough. Quote
Grey Doffin Posted March 5, 2011 Report Posted March 5, 2011 Hi Jason, All of the books mentioned are good for Military swords. There are no books I'm aware of that have much to say about older blades mounted in Gunto koshirae. Grey Quote
