patrick7813 Posted February 3, 2011 Report Posted February 3, 2011 Hello all I'm a new member and when I attempt to access the swordsmith database, I receive an HTTP403 error along with a message that I must login to have the page displayed. Since I'm logged in the NMB, is there another login required? Thanks for any suggestions. Regards,
Jamie Posted February 3, 2011 Report Posted February 3, 2011 Try this: http://home.earthlink.net/~steinrl/nihonto.htm
patrick7813 Posted February 3, 2011 Author Report Posted February 3, 2011 Jamie - That worked. Does the link at the top of the NMB page take you to the same (Dr. Stein) website? Thanks,
Jamie Posted February 3, 2011 Report Posted February 3, 2011 The link up top isn't working. I posted a Mirror
Brian Posted February 3, 2011 Report Posted February 3, 2011 No you didn't Jamie. You posted a link to Dr Stein's Japanese Sword Index. The swordsmith Database is completely different and is hosted by the JSSUS and hasn't worked for months since the database broke. Nothing we can do about that. I suggest using Nihonto Club database for now. Brian
Andi B. Posted February 16, 2011 Report Posted February 16, 2011 Brian, Nihonto Kanji Pages are here: http://www.jssus.org/nkp The link on your main page goes wrongly to http://www.jssus.org/nkb -> "Nihonto Kanji Bages" But my actual question (than this is the wrong section..): What are the data listed next to the smith's name when searching in the swordsmith's database? What can I read out of this result, e.g.
Jean Posted February 16, 2011 Report Posted February 16, 2011 On the left side : infos in Japanese (different mei/era/school) on the right side: Translation in English Hawley entry (TOM247 20pts)
John A Stuart Posted February 16, 2011 Report Posted February 16, 2011 The known signatures that one can expect to see for this smith are listed in romaji 1,2,3 and the kanji associated with them also listed 1,2,3 on the left. As well the province the smith was active in as well as the period. John
