I just seen this Tsuba on the JSA auction site. Now the funny thing was I had my book The Japanese Sword by Kanzan Sato open on page 153. It looks like the exact same Tsuba. So would this be a copy or what??? In my book it says it is Muromachi period and in the collection of Matsumoto Kintaro, which may have been broken up. Or it could be a later copy. The price was one of the cheaper ones I saw on the 1st page I looked at.

how strange is that tho, that I had the same tsuba open in my book on my coffee table!

The site says 時代: 江戸 which means made in the Edo period. Your book says the original is from which period? John

My book says muromachi period. Not sure if it's a copy or mistake..... I've attatched a photo of the book page.

The description on the auction site says 鎌倉時代の甲冑師鍔を模した一鍔である。幕末頃の作品。- a copy of a Kamakura period Katchû-shi Tsuba made during the Bakumatsu period (i.e. late Edo). IMHO it's much younger than that.
