Hi everyone

Is it acceptable for the hamachi to be smaller the the munemachi on a shinshinto sword, would this be a flaw.

Without pictures it is difficult to say or see what you mean.

After quite a lot of polishing a noticeable difference between both can appear

Length of hamachi is 0.06 inches

Length of munemachi is 0.073 inches

Hi All,

 

Just to be clear, I am not the seller of this sword anymore. That listing is quite old, and is still in the background on my site I guess. I pulled the listing from view at the owner's request a *long* time ago. It was subsequently offered by another dealer later down the road. In order to prevent any potential confusion with the current seller, I've asked Josh to remove the link and provided him with two images of the machis that clearly illustrate the health of the piece. This sword was shown at the NBTHK/AB lecture in San Francisco last year. It is a stunning piece in hand.

No flaws regarding the machi here, and if you are considering it, I think you are looking at a wonderful piece in exceptional polish that would be the envy of most collectors..
