gtstcactus Posted January 16, 2011 Report Posted January 16, 2011 Any comments on the likely authticity of this wakizashi? Age unknown Mumei some twit has possibly cleaned the tang. more pics to come Quote
gtstcactus Posted January 16, 2011 Author Report Posted January 16, 2011 There are characters on the Tsuba or tho they can'y be identified from the photos provided Quote
gtstcactus Posted January 16, 2011 Author Report Posted January 16, 2011 I am considering purchasing......... Quote
Brian Posted January 16, 2011 Report Posted January 16, 2011 It's genuine...but doesn't have a heck of a lot going for it. Maybe worth $200 or so, but I wouldn't lay down big bucks. Needs a LOT of work, more than it is worth, and even then all you are going to end up with is a mediocre wakizashi with a cleaned nakago and possibly cast tsuba. Hmm...unless it is dirt cheap, I would pass. Brian Quote
gtstcactus Posted January 16, 2011 Author Report Posted January 16, 2011 It's an auction. Starting price would be about $220 USD and I'd say it will sell for that as it's not a great market for sellers here. Quote
Mark Posted January 16, 2011 Report Posted January 16, 2011 seller seems to know the value so is starting at the top. Up to you - if you like it that much it is fine but noobe is getting a good deal (other than seller) Quote
mizuta Posted January 22, 2011 Report Posted January 22, 2011 I think this is on Trade me NZ Bernard Kiwi ebay Quote
sanjuro Posted January 22, 2011 Report Posted January 22, 2011 Why is everyone being so kind? Its rubbish! The koshirae would be worth more than the blade, and the koshirae is worth very little. Authentic? All the bits are authentic but I doubt they are all original to the blade. Desirable? Not in the least. Save your money for something a little less dubious. Quote
Jean Posted January 22, 2011 Report Posted January 22, 2011 Quote Why is everyone being so kind? Its rubbish!????? Keith, Everybody has clearly stated to stay away from it (if my understanding of English idioma is correct). BTW, yes it is rubbish, probabilities are very strong that the Koshirae is made of bit and odds ... Quote
drbvac Posted January 22, 2011 Report Posted January 22, 2011 No doubt of the group message at all and I think folks just stating the obvious rather than really making fun of the writers interest in something like this. Quote
gtstcactus Posted February 1, 2011 Author Report Posted February 1, 2011 I decided to save my money and gave this one a miss. Jason Quote
Surfson Posted February 1, 2011 Report Posted February 1, 2011 Jason, for $225 you can buy a decent and interesting tsuba on ebay that you will enjoy and will hold its values and possibly your interest. Virtually any sword you can buy for that amount will be very poor unless you find a private sale from a seller that doesn't know what they have. Quote

As a matter of interest that wakizashi sold for $590NZD..... The price went right up near the end, I'm glad I passed on that one... Jason Quote
