Hi John,

Jauce are the old JapanAuctionCenter (JAC) - they're not cheap (i think about 8% on top of the selling price with a minimum and off course there's shipping) - but they do respond well to mails and they get the job done in a more than satisfying way (I even bought a yari through them, pole and all, and it was very well packaged for something over 2 meters long). Just be sure to compensate for the extra costs when you're bidding, otherwise you might get a nasty surprise. If you follow Yahoo Auctions through them, you'll find a lot of stuff that ends up on eBay through various sellers :-)

John, most yahoo Japan sellers do not ship internationally, so the fees charged by this service and others like it are negligible compared to the fees charged by a regular auction company. You will have to register and transfer money to them in advance through pay pal for your bidding. Bidding in Japan is not like ebay, there is no sniping, if someone bids more then you did within the last few minutes the time resets and you will have a few minutes to bid again until only one person is left. The good part is that they will store several items for you and ship them at once in the same box, saving on shipping. The only problem you might have is they will not contact the seller for you to ask questions and if the seller does not send the item your probably out of luck but I have not had this problem. I have never had a problem with them.

fwiw : I've received following mail today from Nichido (from Jauce). I don't know if their own web auction will feature tsuba or other nihonto-related stuff.

Japan Auction Center has just launched Tokyowin Auctions!.

Now, users from outside of Japan can directly bid on Tokyowin Auctions and have the items shipped to their home country.

Stay tuned in the coming months for new categories and updates.
