Stephen Posted January 9, 2011 Report Posted January 9, 2011 Am I missing something here? yes, whos bidding Quote
estcrh Posted January 9, 2011 Author Report Posted January 9, 2011 The bids are completely private. It used to be that the private bids would at least have some initials posted so you could see how many bidders there were etc...but now its completely private? Quote
Surfson Posted January 9, 2011 Report Posted January 9, 2011 Seems pricy for a showato, eh? Made me think about hauling out one or two that I have. If they bring that kind of money, I could get a nice koto for the proceeds! I haven't checked, but is there anything special about Ujifusa? Quote
ububob Posted January 9, 2011 Report Posted January 9, 2011 For John and John C., what then of the occasional southpaw samurai? Quote
John A Stuart Posted January 9, 2011 Report Posted January 9, 2011 They would be trained not to be. Those marks probably go right around I suspect. John Quote
ububob Posted January 9, 2011 Report Posted January 9, 2011 Ahhh, yes. I know the technique. Way, way back in the day when I started to write I was turned into a right-handed writer... :D Quote
Bruno Posted January 9, 2011 Report Posted January 9, 2011 3501$ for restored showato??? I have a friend who bought a Yasukuni in good condition for that price. Really weird Quote
Bruno Posted January 9, 2011 Report Posted January 9, 2011 45 bids and only 9 different bidders? "Item being relisted due to a O feedback non-payer" Yeah of course!!! Quote
werner Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 Hi, I watched this one with a lot of interest as I sold the twin of this sword (- same smith - also mint and without a showa stamp - guess special order made...) approx 2 years ago for $800 -- I died a slow death when I saw the bitting.....then again I came across a sword - limited edition (10) based on the "Lord of the Rings" film - made in NZ - single steel - not tempered - not laminated....basic principle (not boasting: I could make one like it) and this one sold for $7,500 on ebay last week.....it must certainly be that value is what the individual's thinks it should be... estcrh Posted January 10, 2011 Author Report Posted January 10, 2011 3501$ for restored showato??? I have a friend who bought a Yasukuni in good condition for that price. Really weird I can not see that this sword was described as being "restored", it does not mention being polished, no mention of tang stamp or oil-water tempered etc. Quote
Bruno Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 I can not see that this sword was described as being "restored", it does not mention being polished, no mention of tang stamp or oil-water tempered etc. Ito, same and polish look like they were done yesterday to me. Quote
estcrh Posted January 10, 2011 Author Report Posted January 10, 2011 Ito, same and polish look like they were done yesterday to me. I agree with you Bruno, I do not think this sword was unused, the blade looks polished and the tsuka seems to have been restored. It seems to be a lot of money for what looks like an oil tempered blade from the pictures I can see. Quote
Bruno Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 I agree with you Eric, a lot of money involved. It is why I guess seller wanted his investment back and possibly played with the bids to increase final price. However I do not think he will sell it a third time on Eb... Quote
