takakage Posted December 29, 2010 Report Posted December 29, 2010 Is these spots in the jigane could be namazu hada ? Quote
cabowen Posted December 29, 2010 Report Posted December 29, 2010 looks more like shintetsu to me.... Quote
takakage Posted December 29, 2010 Author Report Posted December 29, 2010 Thanks for your answer, i agree with you. Quote
Ken-Hawaii Posted December 29, 2010 Report Posted December 29, 2010 Chris, why would shintetsu be exposed like that in the middle of the blade, & only in spots? I've seen shintetsu but only on badly-worn &/or -polished blades. Quote
cabowen Posted December 30, 2010 Report Posted December 30, 2010 shintetsu is not always centered exactly in the center of the blade, sometimes it is off a bit and can be exposed after a few polishes, especially on blades with thin skin like Hizento.... Quote
Ken-Hawaii Posted December 30, 2010 Report Posted December 30, 2010 Does that mean the togi made a mistake in polishing? I would think that recognizing that a blade is tired or thin-skinned would be a pretty important thing for him to know before starting the process! Quote
cabowen Posted December 30, 2010 Report Posted December 30, 2010 Unless he has xray vision, there is no way to know how close the shintetsu is to the surface. That is why every polish is a gamble and why blades shouldn't be polished by amateurs. Quote
