Alan Morton Posted December 26, 2010 Author Report Posted December 26, 2010 Here is a link I fogot Japanese WW II Army officer`s sword "Tatsuoki" Nagamits Quote
SwordGuyJoe Posted December 27, 2010 Report Posted December 27, 2010 This is a very interesting blade. Suguha is not typical of Nagamitsu, although the very modest choji undulations and o-kissaki is somewhat more typical to Nagamitsu's work - better pictures would certainly help. The mei seems to me undoubtably Nagamitsu. I know Chris is not a huge fan of Nagamitsu, but this is an interesting wrinkle in the saga of Ichihara Ichiryushi Nagamitsu. Chris, any light you may be able to shed or opinions on this topic? Quote
Brian Posted December 27, 2010 Report Posted December 27, 2010 Can't find it...anyone got a link? Brian Quote

cabowen Posted December 27, 2010 Report Posted December 27, 2010 As for this sword, it is difficult to say with any certainty if it is an alternate signature of Ichihara Nagamitsu (highly likely), a relative/student (very possible), or simply a different and unrelated smith (doubtful). Since I have yet to see a Nagamitsu blade on par with those produced by the Yasukuni tosho, Horii, Tsukamoto Okimasa, or any of the other top smiths of the period, to me, it just isn't something that gets me excited.....I try to collect the best of the period and Nagamitsu's work is just not it...... Considering what else one could buy for $4000+, it is hard to imagine this level of interest in an average WWII gunto. Trying to find a rational explanation, I can only guess that the bidders are after artifacts, not art...Then again, there is no rational explanation for much of what collectors do.....to each his own. 1 Quote

Hi, I know this is more than likely too late, but anyone still have a picture of this blade? Asking since the eBay listing has expired and I can't seem to for an archive for it. Thanks! Quote
Stephen Posted January 30, 2024 Report Posted January 30, 2024 Back from the dead , most of those members don't post anymore. Starting a new thread would be better asking about Nagamitsu. Which by the way we haven't seen many lately. Used to be monthly. One of my favorite smith's. Quote

This is exactly why I hate to see guys just post links instead of posting the photos. A couple years go by and *poof* the link is dead. 1 1 Quote
