Hello one and all, I recently found a wakizashi for sale with a KATSUMITSU mei. It is inb need of a full restoration and I wanted to know if anyone had any idea about the mei. I have looked and several other KATSUMITSU meis look like this but not sure. Any advice would be welcome. The weight and size are wonderful and i really like it but do not wish to get robbed on the deal. Regards, CgS

The seller is a female Japanese antiques dealer that knows nothing about swords. It does have a registration card (toroksho). She does not guarentee anything but she is a reputable business person with whom I have done business in other areas of Japanese antiues for over 4 years. I have read that there were apporx 50 smiths/makers from whom the signature could have come from in the Bizen area. Anyone know about that?

Thanks for the response!

Always look to see if the blade says "Katsumitsu" before looking to see what the nakago says. Can you post photos of the last 2-3 inches of the sword at the tip? Lots of artists named Katsumitsu, your piece should say Bizen at least...

More (bad) photos. I am going to go to where the sword is later this week and take more photos again. I borrowed a friend's snap camera and had him mail me the photos, so they are not very complete.

Thank you for your time and knowledge.
