Rich S Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 I was wondering if there are any new US postal regulations or any new laws, etc in Australia about shipping swords from the US to Australia? Any accurate info would be appreciated. Thanks in advance Rich S Quote
Mark Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 Richard I have not mailed any swords down under for a couple of months, but have mailed swords to UK and Hong Kong and have had no problems or seen any changes with USPS Quote
Stephen Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 Just mailed out the Suketoshi no problems other than the postal worker not knowing what NSW 2010 was, was so upset with the crap in my head I had to come home do a google to find it was New South Whales, that's the providence the PO worker could not fig out. marked the blade Antique Japanese Nihonto. Mailed one to Keith a few months ago as well...no problems. Quote
David Flynn Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 The state of, New South Wales, 2010 is a inner Sydney suburb. People from NSW are called, New South Welshmen. People from Sydney are called, Sydneyites. 2010 is also the next Suburb to Where the Sydney Shinsa will be held. Also, the only restriction on posting Nihonto, that I'm aware of, is calling Tanto Daggers. Customs will not allow th importation of knives. However swords are OK! Quote
Stephen Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 David Sent to The Australian Museum in East Sydney, is that where the shinsa is going to be? Quote
moss Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 Hello Richard and all, I just had a sword sent from the U.S to Australia. Absolutely no problems, just an extra $9 for additional for security monitoring. David is correct in regards to tanto, and if you wish to import yari you will be in for a ton of paper work and no guarantee on import. There is paper work on a state level and also at a federal level along with waiting for the wheels to turn. The powers that be are of the opinion the any blade with a double sided edge is some form of WMD and make it near impossible. Don't fudge the contents if bringing in a yari or tanto either unless you want to add a $250K fine to your collection. I have recently gone though all of this import garbage and these are my findings. Cheers Moss Quote
David Flynn Posted December 15, 2010 Report Posted December 15, 2010 Stephen, the Australian Museum is about a 10minute walk, about one and half Kilometres as the crow flies. Quote
