B Dreier Posted September 1, 2006 Report Posted September 1, 2006 Hello All I have a question about the naginata being mounted. As a tsuka is two pieces put together around the nakago. How does the pole for the naginata or yari get carve to recieve the long nakago on these? Are they split as well? Thank you for any help in this. Regards B Dreier Quote
Mark Green Posted September 5, 2006 Report Posted September 5, 2006 Hiya B, Yes, Nagi poles are split to just below the length of the nakago, then carved out to fit the tang, then holed, and rice glued back together. The whole mess is then held together by many extra fittings that act as bands around the 'split' area. Often hemp twine is used as well. Yari are the same way as well. Hope this helped. Mark Quote
