drdata Posted December 10, 2010 Report Posted December 10, 2010 Good q. I too await papers for a katana. I pinged Tom around 10/28 and he indicated the papers were at the calligraphers and he might receive them back by the end of November. So, should be pretty soon now. Perhaps in time for xmas! Toryu2020 Posted December 10, 2010 Report Posted December 10, 2010 All - I was hoping to have them in hand to be mailed out individually by now but I am assured they are in the air as we speak. So yes Xmas looks to be the time depending on your geographical location. Stay Tuned! We do appreciate everyones patience, tch -on behalf of the NTHK Quote
David Flynn Posted December 10, 2010 Report Posted December 10, 2010 Going by the Sydney Shinsa, at least 6mths. In fact, we picked them up in Japan in Nov. the shinsa was in march! Quote
Muki Posted December 10, 2010 Report Posted December 10, 2010 What is the approximate time before any findings or decisions are generally released? Quote
elliottshogun Posted December 10, 2010 Author Report Posted December 10, 2010 At SF Token Kai, after your submission it was about 3 hours and you then knew whether you were receiving a 'pink' or 'yellow' slip of paper. Elliott Quote
elliottshogun Posted December 21, 2010 Author Report Posted December 21, 2010 For those who are waiting for papers, I received mine today (12/21/2010). What a great gift! Elliott Quote

Icepic Posted December 22, 2010 Report Posted December 22, 2010 Them origamis are coming in like Grant marching on Richmond; now if I could only read'em. Thanks NCJSC, you guys are great. Quote
Henry Wilson Posted December 22, 2010 Report Posted December 22, 2010 To help read the papers this site might be of help: http://www.nihontocraft.com/japanese_sword_papers.html Quote
elliottshogun Posted December 22, 2010 Author Report Posted December 22, 2010 Not only 'nihontocraft' but Richard Stein's site as well as mine defines the columns as to what they mean. I copy (xerox) my paper then break out the books (neilson, etc.) and spend a day translating the kanji. It helps to have your 'yellow' slip with you. And this teaches you different kanji which at my age lasts about a day....... Elliott Quote
drdata Posted December 22, 2010 Report Posted December 22, 2010 I recently had a go at this myself on an old nthk paper with success thanks to the help here. It includes a ppt with e-kanji that can be pasted into search engines etc: viewtopic.php?f=15&t=8910 I also found the below useful as it shows some nthk paper translations. Mine was so old that none matched exactly, hence much added fun: http://home.earthlink.net/~steinrl/origami.htm Regards Quote
