Sorry but it looks like neither to me. :doubt: There's quite a few discrepancies in the mei. The "kuni" is especially suspicious in form, but others lack in form and confidence as well.

Is it a papered piece?

To my German co-members.If you are interested in Kunisuke:at the Lempertz auction "Asian Art" at Cologne on December 11 there is a Katana signed Kawachi (they wrote "Kashu" in their online catalogue) no Kami Kunisuke (lot 528) with limit Euro 2500.There is no pic of the tang.If I would be in West-Germany I would look at that sword ("good polish"):maybe a "Schnaeppchen" if it's from Shodai or Nidai!Ludolf

PS.There is also a Shinshinto-Katana signed "Kofu ju Minamoto Nobushige tsukuru kore" (Hawley NOB 468),dated 8th month of bunkyu (1863):Lot 529 limit Euro 2000 (very good polish).

To my German co-members:forget the "Schnaeppchen" (good/very good deal). The Katana at the Lempertz-Auction to come has a Gimei (I got an extra pic with the Mei from them). The faker didn't even try to chissel the Mei exactly like the ones from Shodai or Nidai (or Sandai or Yondai).Look at the pic ,where I have put together all the Kanji in 2 rows.I am very familiar with the first 2 gen.Kawachi no Kami Kunisuke, because that theme was part of our Conundrum some years ago.Ludolf
