Marc BROQUIN Posted November 11, 2010 Report Posted November 11, 2010 Hello all, :D a new challenge. One tsuba for auction in Paris for the 19th of November (Expert Portier, Beaussant-Lefevre auctioneer) Who is the maker ? Is it SHOSHIN or not ? According to the different books I have, this is a faked tsuba IMO Best regards Marc Quote
Ludolf Richter Posted November 11, 2010 Report Posted November 11, 2010 Hi Marc, from the pics in my database this mei was not chiselled by Okawa Teikan:Gimei.Ludolf Quote
Soshin Posted November 12, 2010 Report Posted November 12, 2010 Thanks for sharing Marc. Nice tsuba from the Meiji period with a fake signature. I would love to look it up but most of my books are in boxes as I have started the process of moving. Yours truly, David S. Quote
docliss Posted November 30, 2011 Report Posted November 30, 2011 Could one of our experts be so kind as to translate for me the long mei on Marc's tsuba? With thanks, John L. Quote
Gunome Posted November 30, 2011 Report Posted November 30, 2011 Hello, For information, the other side of the same tsuba Quote
christianmalterre Posted November 30, 2011 Report Posted November 30, 2011 May i ask following questions here? Who,but of you both, does want to know/or get an answer? Marc or Sebastian? It´s obviously an Tsuba which is known(otherwise we hadn´t those pictures here, which seem to be known-at least for those who took part in the auction/sight) Persé-It´s obviously an Tsuba which already,(in past?)-stood,have ben,somehow/however? in discussion.?(If i am wrong here-please be so kind so to correct me!) So what? What shall this piece of iron be,ben,titulated/attributed to-or is this just an evaluation of...? Sorry! Christian Quote
docliss Posted December 1, 2011 Report Posted December 1, 2011 Much as I always value Christien's postings on NMB, I regret that I have no idea what he is saying on his latest posting. The request for a mei translation was clearly for my own benefit, however. John L. Quote
Curgan Posted December 1, 2011 Report Posted December 1, 2011 I too think that it is a quiz and not an attribution request. There is the spoiler as well... Quote
christianmalterre Posted December 1, 2011 Report Posted December 1, 2011 Oh-i feel very sorry if mine writing was not clear-Pardon! What i did try to express-is that me,not only do doupt this Signature(on which i did but not focus mineself at all);but rather on the general work-and this is much more important in mine view. I tend to say-this is an well intended Fake which did but not pass it´s obvious intention ... Hopefully none of you both(Marc,Sebastian)did purchase it.... Christian Quote
docliss Posted December 1, 2011 Report Posted December 1, 2011 Oh dear - how difficult is this meant to be? To summarise, I know that Marc's tsuba bears a gimei signature of Okawa Teikan, and I want a translation of that mei....OK? John L. Quote
Jean Posted December 1, 2011 Report Posted December 1, 2011 All this for a post dtd November 11th, 2010 I think Marc can give thr translation if he thinks to check this section or any of our Japanese friends Quote
docliss Posted December 8, 2011 Report Posted December 8, 2011 Please forgive me for giving this thread a 'bump'. Surely there is a member out there who can assist me with this request for a translation? With thanks, John L. Quote
Mark Green Posted December 8, 2011 Report Posted December 8, 2011 It is too bad someone had to try to fake the signiture. This tsuba is very nice in my eyes. Mark G Quote
Jean Posted December 8, 2011 Report Posted December 8, 2011 I have sent Marc a message to see if he knows the translation. I doubt it, but who knows? Quote
Thierry BERNARD Posted December 8, 2011 Report Posted December 8, 2011 yes Jean he know it!!! http://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=11708 Quote
Marc BROQUIN Posted December 8, 2011 Author Report Posted December 8, 2011 Hello, My dear fellow Jean is perfectly right, I do not know the beginning but the two last kanjis are TEI-KAN and the magnificent kao is ....... false such as the tsuba supposed to be made by the great master. The quality is also not there even if the general design is nice, somewhat like a NATSUO, but a very pale one. Sorry Doc, my Japanese is limited. Best Marc Quote
Marc BROQUIN Posted December 8, 2011 Author Report Posted December 8, 2011 I should precise that this is not my tsuba, but one found in a french auction from last year. I have been attracted some minutes due to the name but hallas.... Best marc Quote
