Hello,

I'm new to the forum and I just trade a blade that is supposed to be a gunto.

I know nothing about kanji.

Someone can help me understanding the mei?

Thank you very much!

The fittings are also interesting (except for the ito). http://img132.imageshack.us/gal.php?g=14685306.jpg

If its a Chinese fake its the best I ever saw.

As for being inefficient as a cutting blade, it depends on the steel, the hamon hasn't much to do if traditional methods weren't used, many modern production katana have fake hamon and cut very well.

I agree with Chris that is probably a fake.

If you're going to cut with a blade-you'd want to know it's been hardened. Most of the ones you are most likely referring to- if they do cut well, without losing their edge will be through hardened with a fake Hamon. I'm talking about production blades though-not Fakes.

The hamon indicates the blade has a hardened edge. If the edge hasn't been hardened and only a cosmetic hamon applied, it will not hold an edge and thus be worthless as a cutting instrument.

This is a fake. No question. A fake and nothing but. The hamon is cosmetic and ugly. Please do not try to cut with it. If you do you risk serious injury if/when the blade shatters. It has value only as a wall hanger, whatever someone who doesn't know better will pay.
