Henry Wilson Posted October 30, 2010 Report Posted October 30, 2010 Despite the cold typhoon I made it to the DTI. I have come to realize that it is more of a social rather than a buying event for me. I have met lots of great people (new faces and old friends) today and chatted with and felt very happy spending the afternoon together. I saw at least 3 real Nobuie and a few nice Yamakichibei and also a stray Kanie at 5,0000,000 yen which is far too cheap me . Also I saw lovely Ko Mino fittings too. Yashima as always have a lovely spread of stuff, a nice Myochin there caught my eye. Saw, held and fondled lots of nice koshirae, kabuto and my current favourite, the Sasano Ko Tosho tsuba at Seikedo. You can't actually see how the sukashi has been cut in the photos which is bad luck for you : http://www.ginzaseikodo.com/sasanoE.html The "long hair peace guy" is in fact Reveal hidden contents Reinhard A great guy whom I hope to talk again to tomorrow if I am lucky. Might post more tomorrow I if have something to say and promise not to post endless pics of My new Gimei Nihonto. Quote
Pete Klein Posted October 30, 2010 Report Posted October 30, 2010 Hi Guido and many thanks for the pics. It's fun to see you guys having all the fun... NOT! LOL Next year for me as I'm tired of looking at these pics without a wide angle shot of me in them... PS: spiffy shoes Cyrus... Quote
Guido Posted October 30, 2010 Author Report Posted October 30, 2010 Pete Klein said: PS: spiffy shoes Cyrus...Funny that you mention it: we went out tonight, walking through the pouring rain of typhoon # 14, and entered a building where the wet leather soles of Cyrus' fancy Italian shoes didn't meet enough friction on the polished marbel floor. What can I tell you, I was torn between feeling sorry for him, and laughing my behind off at the sight of him that resembled a turtle on its back, especially with his heavy backpack. Quote
Yoshimichi Posted October 31, 2010 Report Posted October 31, 2010 Great DTI photographs, Guido! For those of us who could not make the trip this year, it is great to see Robert Hughes and Fred Weissberg and the regulars enjoying the show. Great armor photographs!I will definitely make sure to be there next year. Again, thanks for sharing the show with us. Quote
ububob Posted October 31, 2010 Report Posted October 31, 2010 Fred looks to be dozing peacefully behind his display case. Still soaking up a little jet-lag. :D Lay off Cyrus' shoes, they're cool! ...and thanks for the photos and the vicarious thrill of DTI. :D Quote
tetsugendo11 Posted November 3, 2010 Report Posted November 3, 2010 funny about the post, i just happened to see a similiar chinese guy with the same shoes on the way to the nbthk on the ground like a turtle the other day................guess to be styling has a price to pay! Quote
Lee Bray Posted November 3, 2010 Report Posted November 3, 2010 This was my first DTI and I was absolutely blown away by it. For me, there was not nearly enough time to take it all in but I think with the quantity and quality present, that would have been impossible anyway. I got to meet a few of the fellas from here but unfortunately not all that were present. Maybe in a year or two when I don't get so distracted by all the swords I'll get a chance to say hello. Fairly sure I saw Guido's face outside the ANA intercontinental arrival area when I arrived on Friday evening but not again over the weekend so missed that chance. Fantastic time... Quote
doug e lewis Posted November 3, 2010 Report Posted November 3, 2010 You get to have all the fun! nice pix...thanks for sharing Quote
ububob Posted November 6, 2010 Report Posted November 6, 2010 I forgot to ask but are any DTI attendees in need of a liver donor? :D Quote
Jean Posted November 7, 2010 Report Posted November 7, 2010 Marc for instance after the farewell Party with Robert (sake and beer) Some other shots here and there Quote
ububob Posted November 13, 2010 Report Posted November 13, 2010 Jean, why, in FW1, is hageyama smiling??? Quote
Jean Posted November 13, 2010 Report Posted November 13, 2010 Bob, Have you ever seen some one crying at an NMB party? Quote
Pete Klein Posted November 13, 2010 Report Posted November 13, 2010 Bob -- he probably just sold Hans another Juyo tsuba... :D ! Quote
ububob Posted November 14, 2010 Report Posted November 14, 2010 Alas, Jean I have yet to attend an NMB party anywhere. Due in part to my near monastic life-style since my liver turned to concrrete! :D Pete, I suspect that given the exchange rate Fred would much prefer to be seller rather than a buyer. Besides DTI looks like a place for those far more experienced in nihonto than moi. :D Quote
