peter Posted October 29, 2010 Report Posted October 29, 2010 Hi Guys, i posted this sword some time ago on the NMB and since then it has been away to polish so as promised the new pics, Peter Quote
peter Posted October 29, 2010 Author Report Posted October 29, 2010 thanks Stephen, i,m well pleased the pics don,t do it justice, there should be before pics on the board somewhere, Peter Quote
Mark Green Posted October 29, 2010 Report Posted October 29, 2010 Looks very nice Pete. Got to love those Bungo Tomoyuki!!! :D I bet it looks great in person. I have never seen a crapy Bungo Tomoyuki. Enjoy. Quote
peter Posted October 29, 2010 Author Report Posted October 29, 2010 Thanks Mark, i can see now why you like them i never thought the hamon or kassaki would come out so well as the kassaki was not looking so good and was badly pitted, the shirasaya just adds to the beauty and gets it out of the military mounts it was in, thanks again for your input on the Bungo Tomoyuki was very helpfull, as are all the gents on the Board, Peter Quote
gudis Posted October 31, 2010 Report Posted October 31, 2010 That looks like a very nice blade. BUT isn't the yokote line a little misplaced ?? It looks to be a bit to far forward ?? Or is it just the pictures ?? I'm no pro but I'm loving a nice polish. Quote
cabowen Posted October 31, 2010 Report Posted October 31, 2010 That looks like a very nice blade. BUT isn't the yokote line a little misplaced ?? It looks to be a bit to far forward ?? I was thinking the same thing.... Quote
gudis Posted October 31, 2010 Report Posted October 31, 2010 Ok, so I'm not alone with my thought. Are there maybe different schools that says different things about placement of the yokote ? Quote
peter Posted October 31, 2010 Author Report Posted October 31, 2010 Hi guys, Thanks for the input but i hope it was just my bad photo skills so took a few more for you look at, fingers crossed, Peter Quote
drbvac Posted November 1, 2010 Report Posted November 1, 2010 May just be shadows and/or angles because it looks not bad in the middle two but in this pic I would expect or at least be more used to seeing it around where its marked - but I may be wrong Quote
cabowen Posted November 1, 2010 Report Posted November 1, 2010 Hi guys,Thanks for the input but i hope it was just my bad photo skills so took a few more for you look at, fingers crossed, Peter Hmmm, in your last photo, it looks to be off by a good 1/8"....in the other photos, it varies from ok to off....Hard to say.... The yokote, shinogi and ko-shinogi, should all intersect, forming what is called the mitsukado, or "three corners". If these three do not meet exactly, something is not correct.... Quote
Tsugio Kawakami Posted November 1, 2010 Report Posted November 1, 2010 Looks like the yokote on the sashi-omote is too far forward, whereas, on the ura, it is more correctly placed...just judging by the overall shape of the kissaki as well as the placement of the yokote in regards to the fukura... I could see how the placement of the mitsukado could vary with a few reshapings and whatnot, but it would take some serious skill to change the shape on the edge from one side to another. Pete, any way you can compare the placement with the sword in hand? See if they are, in fact, offset? Quote
Mark Green Posted November 1, 2010 Report Posted November 1, 2010 I would have to agree Pete. You may want to contact your polisher. It should be like Chris and others have said. It looks to have been moved forward some. Take a look from the edge side. Do they line up? Mark G Quote
ububob Posted November 1, 2010 Report Posted November 1, 2010 Pete, just out of curiosity who did the work? Quote
Carlo Giuseppe Tacchini Posted November 1, 2010 Report Posted November 1, 2010 If these three do not meet exactly, something is not correct.... Koshinogi looks not right as well, resembling too straight in the forward part, both sides. Might be the pics and lack of sleep on my part. Quote
