lonesomeagle1 Posted October 25, 2010 Report Posted October 25, 2010 This is a Wazikashi that was brought back by my Dad in 1945. I am beginning to take an interest in studying this and would appreciate any help that the board can give me in translating and identifying the smith and age of this blade. A relative with a degree Japanese History gave me some help in my initial translation. He came up with "Bizen kuni Osafune ju Tadashige saku". Is this correct and if so does anyone have any information about him? When was he active, is he a listed smith etc... Your patience with my questions and requests is greatly appreciated. Pete Quote

lonesomeagle1 Posted October 26, 2010 Author Report Posted October 26, 2010 Thank You both for the quick replies. This is my first attempt at identifying this sword. I am thrilled that with the help I've received I have a correct translation. Is there any information that will identify the era that this smith was active. Has anyone here seen this signature before? Anywhere that I should be looking? Please forgive my naivete', But I do believe that I have caught the "bug" that seems to be prevalent here, the thirst for knowledge and understanding of art. Just the thought that I have a link with the traditions of the past makes me hunger for more. Is there anyone here in the North New Jersey area that I should be in contact with? The blade is in pretty rough shape, but there are some definite patterns visible. Quote
