takeda81 Posted October 8, 2010 Report Posted October 8, 2010 Hello In my limited experience I never saw a silver mekugi , and I am thinking that silver is not strong enough to be a functional mekugi for a nihonto, specially with just one mekugi. So here is the subject : http://cgi.ebay.com/WW2-Japanese-Samura ... 41535c247e I know that the seller is a serious guy, but my question is about the autenticity of the mount - the silver tsuka and the silver mekugi ... Maybe other people more knowledgeable here on the forum who can add more to this subject. Thank you in advance. ps. I just made some quality mekugi from black ebony, those interested, please contact me. Just 8 pieces for the moment. Quote
Grey Doffin Posted October 8, 2010 Report Posted October 8, 2010 The tsuka and mekugi are a post war alteration/addition by a westerner, not a Nihonto artist. Grey Quote
jason_mazzy Posted October 8, 2010 Report Posted October 8, 2010 It appears to be a souvenier the soldier had made to "date" his trophy. I have seen other things from war veterans on trophies. embroidery, or elaborate pen and ink. As a disabled combat vet my self, when and if you had a chance to bring back something different the guys would usually do something to it to make it their own. Quote
