tesscoothome123 Posted September 21, 2010 Report Posted September 21, 2010 Hi, I would like to thank those who have helped me with advice and I have found a few books that I have ordered. I have also been able to identify two other swords I have on my own. I have this one that I have spent four hours on I need some hints. This is a Wakizashi I have and do not know if there are two or three mei here. If it is two I can not find these mei with the charts and I am wondering if the other side is a date? Thanks, John the Newbie but learning Quote
Jacques Posted September 21, 2010 Report Posted September 21, 2010 Hi, Unfortunately, it seems to be a fake Quote
Grey Doffin Posted September 21, 2010 Report Posted September 21, 2010 The 1st picture reads Kiyohisa; can't read the 2nd. Looks like a fake but I'm not 100% sure of that. Anyone else care to add? Grey Quote
tesscoothome123 Posted September 22, 2010 Author Report Posted September 22, 2010 Hi, Here are a couple good pictures of the blade. I have terrible picture of the tang. This has a nicer temper line and edge than the previous one I posted here and a Ishido Teruhide blade I just identified. I am hoping these will help. I have had this for about 30 years. I am hoping bad pictures! Thanks John Quote
cabowen Posted September 22, 2010 Report Posted September 22, 2010 The blade looks better than most of the cheap fakes but the nakago looks extremely amateurish. The kanji are poorly cut (those on the ura don't even look like they were cut by a Japanese), the yasuri-me are very roughly and incorrectly done, the shape of the nakago and the fit of the habaki are crude- it looks much more like a chinese fake than a Japanese sword. If you compare this to a properly finished nakago I think you will see what I mean....Here is one for comparison: Quote
tesscoothome123 Posted September 22, 2010 Author Report Posted September 22, 2010 Thank you for you help and I am very happy to say this was one of my first swords many years ago. Live and learn and that is what I am doing. Thanks, John Quote
cabowen Posted September 22, 2010 Report Posted September 22, 2010 You are most welcome...Hope the photo was helpful.... Quote
Jean Posted September 22, 2010 Report Posted September 22, 2010 John, A tell tale : smith are very proud of their nakago and particularly of their file marks (yasuri me). Look at yours. Quote
