GRC Posted November 21, 2021 Report Posted November 21, 2021 oops... it's been a while, so I lost sight of the fact that it was for sukashi crabs... thanks for the reminder Dale. I also like the tsuba-dome-ana on the Boston one because they look like the target of the crab itself. Very cleverly done 1 Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted November 30, 2021 Report Posted November 30, 2021 This may be the same one Nobody showed back in 2010. From an older book: Quote

Bugyotsuji Posted November 30, 2021 Report Posted November 30, 2021 Just remembered that I have a Wakizashi koshiraé covered in crabs 🦀 Quote
Spartancrest Posted November 30, 2021 Report Posted November 30, 2021 Piers: you can get medication for that these days! 4 Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted November 30, 2021 Report Posted November 30, 2021 Unfortunately there is *no Tsuba, the one thing this thread is about. Menuki, Fuchi, Kashira, Kurigata and Kojiri are all of a crab theme, in various metals, on fine nanakoji. It’s an aikuchi! Quote
Geraint Posted November 30, 2021 Report Posted November 30, 2021 Come on, Piers. Play fair! You can't just tease us with that description and then not show us! All the best. 1 Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted November 30, 2021 Report Posted November 30, 2021 A koshiraé is not an easy thing to shoot. If it’s ok to hijack the thread for some photos Geraint, I’ll put these up. 2 2 Quote

Bugyotsuji Posted December 3, 2021 Report Posted December 3, 2021 (Unable to edit above.) Slightly better shot of the Kozuka. Hironao, Mito. Mice servants? 1 Quote
Spartancrest Posted December 3, 2021 Report Posted December 3, 2021 Piers : Mice porters? Tsuba is from the Museum of Applied Arts (Powerhouse) https://collection.maas.museum/object/183028 [It looks like it has seen better days] 1 Quote

Bugyotsuji Posted December 25, 2021 Report Posted December 25, 2021 Not a Tsuba, and not exactly sukashi either, but some silver Menuki just to add flavour to the pot… 3 1 Quote
GRC Posted January 25, 2022 Report Posted January 25, 2022 This one has been been hitting the gym during covid... maybe taking some growth enhancers? Same pattern we've seen a few times now, but look at the size of the claws on this one! 1 Quote
Spartancrest Posted January 25, 2022 Report Posted January 25, 2022 The claws look like those of a 'Spanner Crab' but the rest of the anatomy doesn't fit. The 'Samurai' or Heike crab doesn't have symmetrical claws, so it isn't that species either. Quote
GRC Posted February 22, 2022 Report Posted February 22, 2022 Another one of the Chushu type shown earlier: 2 Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted February 23, 2022 Report Posted February 23, 2022 Oh wow, going off piste here for a second, but your Choshu tsuba there Glen (and Ed on the previous page) by Tomonobu is very similar to one I have, only without the crab! From your brother... Quote
GRC Posted March 24, 2023 Report Posted March 24, 2023 This one just ended recently, and sold for some big numbers, but I'm not surprised. Looks even better than the Owari one from the Tokyo museum that Steve posted. 1 2 Quote
roger dundas Posted March 31, 2023 Report Posted March 31, 2023 For mine Glen, that crab tsuba is just the ultimate. So is the one in the Tokyo museum. Can you have two ultimates? Roger j Quote
Spartancrest Posted March 31, 2023 Report Posted March 31, 2023 I'll post an image of my crab sukashi - I think it is a modern hobby piece, the rim and legs are very thin and the whole thing is very lightweight. It didn't set me back much so no big drama. 1 Quote
rkg Posted March 31, 2023 Report Posted March 31, 2023 I know you were asking for kani sukashi, but since some other people have put up others... here's a ko kinko one:\ best, rkg (Richard George) 2 Quote
