ogami_itto Posted August 23, 2010 Report Posted August 23, 2010 Hello there, i've been looking for a true Japanese nihonto (possibly brand new) for a long time and today i came across this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250685372962 I'm no expert but the price looks very low to me. Any opinions? Quote
Brian Posted August 23, 2010 Report Posted August 23, 2010 Please sign your posts as per the rules. Chinese. Any time you see this silly explanation of how Japanese smiths travel to other countries to forge swords because of costs and limitations in Japan...you know the seller is probably talking rubbish. He was travelling through China and met a Japanese smith? Yeah right. And what are these "high taxes and fees" for forging a sword in Japan? Hmmmm... Brian Quote
Jamie Posted August 23, 2010 Report Posted August 23, 2010 shinsakuto is the term for newly made Japanese swords. Which this one you found on ebay probably is not. If you are looking for a shinsakuto you'd be better finding someone reputable to purchase one from. edit for verbage- Quote

tagonagy Posted August 23, 2010 Report Posted August 23, 2010 A really big indicator that the sword is a production blade, is the fact that the tsuka is double pegged. Quote
