smac401 Posted September 18, 2010 Author Report Posted September 18, 2010 Morning guys, My little Hobbit-friends, You can post a hundred pics more, but in a case like this they won't proof anything. Let's wait and see. Wether it's just a Soshu-style blade or a genuine YUKIMITSU can only be told by a person who did see the more important swords by YUKIMITSU in hand. There are only very few who can. Until then you'll just have to wait. reinhard 100 more pics? It took that many to get four that I thought were good, I have a lot more camera time ahead of me I guess, I know there is no photo shop shinsa at this time, thank goodness but I thought they were good photos anyway... More to come later...... Steve M. Quote
loui Posted September 18, 2010 Report Posted September 18, 2010 Pics only go so far, send blade to bob benson, if he recommends further action then it will get polished and then to the NBTHK. I think that is appropriate. Regards, Louis Quote
cabowen Posted September 18, 2010 Report Posted September 18, 2010 I would send to shinsa before polish. It is in good enough condition as is for a judgment. If it is judged to be something exceptional, then the money and time for a new polish would be a worthy investment. I have seen too many times someone all gung ho on a blade spend $4000-$5000 on a new polish then shinsa, only to have it fail or get a less than hoped for attribution. Quote
loui Posted September 18, 2010 Report Posted September 18, 2010 I'm pretty sure Bob would make the proper recommendation as I said. There is a papering/polishing/submit/resubmit/repolish vortex, best to go the right way the first time. Quote
smac401 Posted September 18, 2010 Author Report Posted September 18, 2010 I agree 100%, this is an old sword and I have that first hand from a collector in my area that has placed hands on it and many other swords in his life time. This sword may have a couple of polishes left at best and should not be put through the vortex so to speak. I have contacted Mr. Benson and he feels he needs to see it in hand of course before rendering opinions. I will be making a decision soon enough but no more pics on this one, reinhard is having a rough time of it, I do appreciate the information on it for sure.... Steve M. Quote
Brian Posted September 18, 2010 Report Posted September 18, 2010 Steve, Reinhard is correct. All he is saying is that posting more comparisson pics at this stage isn't going to lead any closer to a final decision. It needs to be seen in hand by an expert now to decide what you have. No-one is going to identify a masterpiece from pics on the internet. I think this sayagaki is likely wishful thinking...hope for your sake it isn't. Keep us updated. Brian Quote
loui Posted September 18, 2010 Report Posted September 18, 2010 Good call Steve, hope it turns out for you! Louis Quote
smac401 Posted September 19, 2010 Author Report Posted September 19, 2010 Brian, I agree with everything said, pics and etc... I have received some good advice from everyone on the board about pics and the direction to take the sword, most appreciated I promise. Hopefully I will see most of these people when the next shinsa is scheduled and posted or a sword show where we can meet and appreciate them in hand... Thanks again Steve M. Quote
smac401 Posted October 6, 2010 Author Report Posted October 6, 2010 Morning all, Spoke with Mr. Bob Benson yesterday afternoon my time and I am sending him the sword within the next month. It should be in Japan by the December of this year for the January shinsa . I will update everyone when I get the return. I just wanted to thank everyone for their patience and assistance in guiding me on this journey. Steve M. Quote
