nihonto1001 Posted August 12, 2010 Report Posted August 12, 2010 I recently acquired a katana with the mei Yasuyo. After doing some research, I realized this smith is a National Treasure maker and it's probably gimei. But, imagine if... If you'd like, let me know what you think. Sorry, no pics of the blade. it is in need of polish. Looks like someone hit it with a buffing wheel Jon Quote
Mark Posted August 12, 2010 Report Posted August 12, 2010 the mei is weakly cut, that seems to point to gimei, the signature should be cut with more strangth and confidence Quote
reinhard Posted August 12, 2010 Report Posted August 12, 2010 After doing some research, I realized this smith is a National Treasure maker There are no Kokuho (i.e."National Treasure") blades from ShinTo or ShinShinTo times. Juyo Bunkazai ("Important Cultural Property") is the highest level the best of them have attained. However, Ippei YASUYO is a very famous name, his work is extremely rare and faking his mei has been lucrative therefore. Your example is showing a rather poor attempt of doing so. reinhard Quote
