Millsman Posted August 8, 2010 Report Posted August 8, 2010 If these three photographs were all that you had. And the auction house described as: Japanese DAGGER - 19th c. Tanto with unsigned blade, plain bronze fitting, snakeskin covered wooden sheath and handle, 6 3/4' blade, 13 1/2" long overall, corrosion to blade. What,if any, dollar amount would you risk if you liked the shape of the blade? http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f382/ ... 954686.jpg http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f382/ ... 954685.jpg http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f382/ ... 954684.jpg Quote
Toryu2020 Posted August 8, 2010 Report Posted August 8, 2010 Just MHO but I would not risk any dollar amount - looks like the front end of a katana re-worked into a tanto, not good... -t Quote
sanjuro Posted August 8, 2010 Report Posted August 8, 2010 I would not risk any dollar amount on such a purchase. I'm with Thomas on this one. There are too many things amiss to make this blade desirable, and this shape of blade is common enough on the plainly mounted kamikaze pilots' tanto of WW11. Quote
Millsman Posted August 8, 2010 Author Report Posted August 8, 2010 Thanks so much !! I depend on the evaluations here.Another example of the generous help advanced to those of us who are novices. Regards Quote
Mike Posted August 8, 2010 Report Posted August 8, 2010 I think Thomas and Keith nailed it, looks like broken tip of longer sword modified into tanto, I've seen that before. So if getting modest amount of money I'd take it Investing - no way. Mike Quote
