csymmes Posted August 7, 2010 Report Posted August 7, 2010 Any ideas as to period and/or whether this was shortened at some point (Nagasa 25")? I recently purchased from a person who said it was brought back after WWII and has been in attic for 20+ yrs. Any ideas as to value (incl. fittings)? Thanks - Cowles Quote
csymmes Posted August 7, 2010 Author Report Posted August 7, 2010 More photos of fittings on Tosogu board ("Help w/ Tsuba, Menuki & Fuchi"). Thanks - Cowles Quote
huntershooter Posted August 8, 2010 Report Posted August 8, 2010 Reasonable assumption that it has been shortened. I have no idea as to value. Nice find! Quote
Surfson Posted August 10, 2010 Report Posted August 10, 2010 I agree that it looks to be shortened. To my eye, it looks like Kanbun Shinto, maybe late 17th century. As to value, assuming that kantei doesn't indicate a rare maker, I am guessing in the $1500-$2000 range on ebay. The fuchi has been corroded by the leather sheath. All in all, it looks to be quite a desirable sword. Congrats. Quote
