Mark Green Posted August 1, 2010 Report Posted August 1, 2010 Hi Gang, Does anyone have a picture of this actual tsuba by Higo Nashigaki Kanshiro. The drawing is in the' Lethal Elegance' Book. I have never seen a pic of the real tsuba, or a copy of this design. If you have seen one, please send it to me. Thanks, mark G Quote
Mark Green Posted August 1, 2010 Author Report Posted August 1, 2010 Hi guys, I had another tsuba I was hoping someone may have a pic of. I made this sketch while at a friends house. He lost the pic. Anyone seen this one? Thanks for any help. Quote
Mike Posted August 3, 2010 Report Posted August 3, 2010 Hello Mark, I am afraid I can't help you, but regarding the Higo Nashigaki Kanshiro tsuba, I have similar design (especially the top part). It is Higo school but I wouldn't say a Nashigaki Kanshiro (I wish ). Here's a photo. Mike Quote
Mark Green Posted August 3, 2010 Author Report Posted August 3, 2010 Hey thanks Mike. I like that one too. I have never seen the origional one from the drawing. Never seen a copy of it for that matter. Thanks for looking, Mark G Quote
Soshin Posted August 5, 2010 Report Posted August 5, 2010 Dear Mark, Take a look at this tsuba that was up for sale on eBay of all places: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280531128598&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT#ht_2208wt_1135. It has a similar design. The eBay seller has some other really nice tsuba currently for sale on eBay. Hope you find this information helpful. Yours truly, David S. (Soshin) Quote
Mark Green Posted August 5, 2010 Author Report Posted August 5, 2010 Thanks Dave, That's a pretty spiff double crane. Most you see side by side. In my searching, I have found dozens of cranes, but none of my drawing yet. Hard to believe that there isn't a pic of the Nishigaki crane anywhere. I wonder if it is on a sword somewhere? I guess people didn't like the design. I have found no copy pics anywhere. I personally like the design a bunch. A lot more solid looking then most crane tsuba designs. Thanks for the link. I will add that to the collection. Mark Quote
Curran Posted August 7, 2010 Report Posted August 7, 2010 --sorry-- . Had to pull the photo. Pending owner's permission, I'll share the waterwheel Yagyu tsuba photo then. Quote
Mantis dude Posted August 13, 2010 Report Posted August 13, 2010 did you look through this site? modern copies http://tsubaryuken.com/main.html Quote
Mantis dude Posted August 14, 2010 Report Posted August 14, 2010 This is close, the head is just positioned a bit differently http://www.samurai-nippon.net/T-370/index.html Quote
Mark Green Posted August 15, 2010 Author Report Posted August 15, 2010 Thanks Ken! That is a great library of designs. I got some made for some gifts. Done quick, but came out ok. The people that recieved them as gifts liked them. The tsuba could have been better. About on par with that sites tsuba I guess. The crane is shibuichi, and 24k gold eyes. The wheel is some nice home made tamahagane. I just love that design. Thanks for the link. Mark G Quote
Mantis dude Posted August 15, 2010 Report Posted August 15, 2010 I always check that site and post it once in a while. Some of those designs are good and with a bit of aging, I could definitely see being sold. So I think it is important to know what they are making, just in case. there is a mantis design that I really like and would have likely gone for it if I had seen it being sold on an auction site. Those are a step up from the cheap casting and I believe there is some hand work which can serve a purpose especially for the martial art crew but also can be dangerous. Anyway glad I could help.
