Henry Wilson Posted July 30, 2010 Report Posted July 30, 2010 What is the plant in this Kyo tsuba? Thanks Quote
Henry Wilson Posted July 31, 2010 Author Report Posted July 31, 2010 Thanks Kevin Poppy pods it is. I know that they are associated with sleep and death. What significances do poppies have in Japan? Quote
b.hennick Posted July 31, 2010 Report Posted July 31, 2010 The leaves are wrong for poppies. I thought something called a pepperbox. It actually shoots seeds out of the pepper box. I can't find a photo of the leaves. I checked. It has been over 40 years since my last botany course. Quote

O koumori Posted July 31, 2010 Report Posted July 31, 2010 It might be a Thistle (Source of azami?) Dan K. Quote
outlier48 Posted August 1, 2010 Report Posted August 1, 2010 It might be a Thistle (Source of azami?) Dan K. The seed pods on the tsuba don't look like thistle to me. The leaves do look more like those of many thistle plants, though. Charlie Brashear Quote
