Hi all,

I am looking for information on a Muromachi era smith Hisatsugu, two kanji mei.

In my Toko Taikan book, I found the following page on 514. It lists two Hisatsugu, but I am unable to understand what is written. I have attached a scan of the page if someone can help me. I am not even sure if these two references are the same Hisatsugu.

I attempted to translate what I could, but it too could be wrong...

Thanks!

Justin

Hi Justin!

I think the smith values read 700 man yen = 7 000,000 yen and 1000 man yen = 10 000,000 yen

If I read correctly, neither of these smiths worked in the Muromachi period. On the left it reads Toku-ji (1306-1307) Bizen, on the right Ko-an (1278-1288) Bitchu

there are many smiths who signed Hisatsugu. Do you think yours is a kamakura Ko-Aoe blade (maker on the right)? If you think it to be muramachi then you need to look at other makers. Can you post some pictures showing the oevrall shape of the blade and the mei?

then i do not think the 2 you posted are the maker of this sword. You need to search for some later smiths. I would think Tsuruta-san would have provided some info on the smith/period etc on his "appraisal", does that give you what you need?

Thanks Mark-

I have not seen the "appraisal", but was trying to do some research. I know there were many who signed "Hisatsugu" and was trying to narrow it down.

Thanks

Justin
