Thanks Stephen !! that's a very informative link. A very good picture to show how a Hagire (sorry, thirteen Hagire) look like !

I saw drawing of Hagire on all my books, but never a clear picture of a real one actually...

Sorry to hear the bad news about the hagire showing after polish. I appreciate that you mention the damage in the description and show it in the pictures. Many sellers on eBay hide problems. I hope the next sword you have polished comes out great!

This is a good warning for anyone who wants to rescue a sword....under the definition of hagire in the dictionary this sword should be pictured. What would the best method have been in order to have avoided this from happening..a window polish?

OT:

13 cracks - I've seen this piece too and these hagire brought my first attempt of creating a HOL (hamon like object) of a simple piece of steel to mind:

...I only reached 7!

Was/Is it common that such pieces were polished and mounted? :?:

My thinkings or hagire and a nice blade. There are many hagires on this blade, BUT they are thin...

I dont mind buying a blade with fine hagire, just as long as there are no real chips in the edge. I buy blades mostly for the VERY nice steel work that the Japanese smiths where doing.

I cant call myself a collector yet, but I will in the future come there. And if I in my future collection have blades with hagire wouldnt bother me very much. The blades are still a nice katan, wakizashi or a tanto.

If the polish of the blades are nice and the hada and hamon are there, then I will be very happy to just sit and look at it. For a hardcore collector I think he would look for another blade somewhere.

Thats my opinion on it.

...disregarding collector's requirements - a blade with (so many) hagire won't make me happy (and I suppose most of you would also regret such a purchase after a while).

It's my personal taste and depents on the price: A non fatal flaw like a rust spot or even a small chip is ok ("sign of age and history") ;-) - but this blade is really gone...
