pcfarrar Posted July 8, 2010 Report Posted July 8, 2010 Just picked this sword up today at a local auction. After getting home and removing the tsuka, underneath a ton of red rust was a mei that looks like it could be a gendaito. It's a nicely finished nakago with no stamps and is dated 1944. The hamon is a nie based suguha with choji ashi, and some nice activity including nijuba. Jigane looks to be a tight ko-itame. Anyone have any ideas? I can't find this guy in Slough and its got me stumped. I think its Chikugo ju Nagahiro but I could be wrong? Thanks, Peter Quote
cabowen Posted July 8, 2010 Report Posted July 8, 2010 Chikugo ju Suehiro I believe.... There was a group around Fukuoka led by Suetsugu Shigemitsu (末次繁光). Perhaps related.... Quote
pcfarrar Posted July 8, 2010 Author Report Posted July 8, 2010 Thanks Chris. Is some relationship to Muto Hidehiro / Yukihiro from Fukuoka also possible? Quote

pcfarrar Posted July 12, 2010 Author Report Posted July 12, 2010 I compared my sword with the work of Muto Yukihiro and Suetsugu Shigemitsu and I feel there were more similarities with Muto Yukihiro in its style. Is Chikugo ju Suehiro likely to be an undocumented sword smith? I've checked every gendaito reference I own and have drawn up nothing. Quote
cabowen Posted July 12, 2010 Report Posted July 12, 2010 Undocumented or an early/late mei of a known smith....The mei style indeed looks like those of other Fukuoka area smiths such as those you mention. Quote
