sturmbichon Posted June 28, 2010 Report Posted June 28, 2010 I'm openning a new post about the Sukesada I just bought, and I already posted pics of the mei in the "translation help" pages. I find it very nice so wanted to share with you. Nozaki family Mon Quote
huntershooter Posted June 28, 2010 Report Posted June 28, 2010 Shinto blade? What is nagasa? Thank you for photos. Quote
Mark Green Posted June 28, 2010 Report Posted June 28, 2010 Very nice. Not to be an alarmist, That isn't a crack I see in the hamon is it. Maybe just some fuzz. Mark Quote
nagamaki - Franco Posted June 28, 2010 Report Posted June 28, 2010 Not to be an alarmist, That isn't a crack I see in the hamon is it.Maybe just some fuzz. Mark There's also perhaps a piece of " fuzz " in the monouchi in the following view that needs to be checked out http://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/download/file.php?id=18436 . Quote
Stephen Posted June 28, 2010 Report Posted June 28, 2010 all fuzz aside its at least a five hundred year old work horse, great gunto mounts with red tassle dont expect you thought you were buying a juyo blade. it is what it is. Quote
jason_mazzy Posted June 29, 2010 Report Posted June 29, 2010 Nice find. agreed with Stephen. The history of the blade is IMO it's greatest asset. Quote
nagamaki - Franco Posted June 29, 2010 Report Posted June 29, 2010 Greetings, The point of the fuzz post was not to sound the alarm as Mark said, but rather to raise awareness. Five hundred year old work horses are just fine as long as they're not 500 year old dead work horses. Often these things turn out to be nothing of great concern and even when they do turn out to be a fracture, more often than not they appear only on one side . And, hey, I don't care if this blade was not expected to be a juto, I want to make sure the next time someone, anyone, is buying a blade they take the time to carefully examine all the fuzzes after reading this post. Jacques Posted June 29, 2010 Report Posted June 29, 2010 Hi, More, the kissaki was broken and (badly) repaired. Quote
Stephen Posted June 29, 2010 Report Posted June 29, 2010 Well i gues its dead now from all the beating up. Quote
Grey Doffin Posted June 29, 2010 Report Posted June 29, 2010 I'm not sure that the kissaki has been broken; what we're seeing may just be foreshortening due to the photo angle. A picture of the kissaki from straight on should decide this one. Grey Quote
sturmbichon Posted June 29, 2010 Author Report Posted June 29, 2010 I checked the kissaki this morning, and Jacques might be right, I'll take pics tonight to show you. And I'll shoot close up pic on the little "crack" that i tried to show before. It's on the surface, and only one side. Quote
sturmbichon Posted June 29, 2010 Author Report Posted June 29, 2010 Light suck big time i know. That's the best i can do tonight. To my novices eyes, kissaki don't look broken and redone, maybe polished a bit too much and that smoothed the kissaki line a bit to much. Please tell me your opinions. Quote
sturmbichon Posted June 29, 2010 Author Report Posted June 29, 2010 Pics sucks even more, but might show more details.... Quote
Mark Green Posted June 29, 2010 Report Posted June 29, 2010 The spot I was worried about was here. But it may just be a scratch. Quote
sturmbichon Posted July 4, 2010 Author Report Posted July 4, 2010 Here are finally two pics showing the crack or i don't know what it's name. Pics kinda dramatize the problem because what looks in real like a hairline, looks like the colorado canyon on the picture... Quote
Gunome Posted July 4, 2010 Report Posted July 4, 2010 Hello, I think your 2 photos is to show the ware in the shinogi-ji ? But Mark just want to highlight the fact this blade could have a hagire. Sebastien Quote
sturmbichon Posted July 4, 2010 Author Report Posted July 4, 2010 Sorry i'm still lacking the vocabulary. So regarding what Mark was fearing, NO, there is absolutely no crack looking like Hajire. I thought he was talking about the " ware in the shinogi-ji " So that's good news for my sword. Thanks Sebastien Quote
loui Posted July 6, 2010 Report Posted July 6, 2010 Well i gues its dead now from all the beating up. Serious? Please be careful with comments like these, a sword should not be written off by some pictures over the internet. Schnitzel please have someone knowledgeable look at your sword in person. Regards, Louis Quote
Stephen Posted July 7, 2010 Report Posted July 7, 2010 Serious? Please be careful with comments like these, as in all the verbal beating it was getting, sorry if I'm to cryptic at times. Quote
