Hello Gentlemen/ladys (if theres any?)

I was wondering if anyone knows a good place to purchase a good, reasonably priced dou. It can be a newly made one or old i really don't have a preference as long as it looks decent. A full set of armor is a little out of the price league for me, but i have seen them for sale separately before i was shopping for one (figures). If anyone could point me in the direction of a dealer or a shop that sells/makes them it would be most appreciated.

Best wishes to the board,

Donald,

These look nice but something seems a bit sketchy about the low prices. A full yoroi of edo period armor for $1800? seems a bit suspicious, I'll have to get an opinion from a couple more board members before i purchase from this seller. Thanks for the recommendation though.

Cheers :glee:

Andrew, I can only repeat what Donald has said - Old Daimyo does get some interesting bits and his prices are not silly. However, just watch his descriptions - if he says Edo or Momoyama it will be. If he uses some term like it is 'age unknown but it is old' or 'little old' it will be either be brand new or at least fairly recent and a copy. A lot of what he sells will be the remains of armours that have had the helmet and mask sold off separately. The full armour he has at $1820 plus $530 for shipping looks to be all genuine but made up from disparate bits. The helmet has had the mon painted on to match the dou, the red lacing is modern and not well done and the sleeves, haidate and suneate are from different armours.

Best wishes to the board,

Unfortunately unless you want to buy from yahoo Japan there is not much choice on the internet besides damyou for low priced items available immediately unless you are willing to wait and see what comes along, and any armor purchase can be difficult without seeing the piece first hand. If you find something of interest post a link and I am sure you will get some help evaluating what you find.

Hi,

You might hit up Boris/Andy at Yamabushi antiques - If nothing on their site is in your price range, they might be able

to scrounge up something that would work for you...

Best,

Thank-you all for the suggestions, these are all very good candidates for my next purchase. Affordability was the main issue as i am only in my 3rd year of high-school. These pieces are not only in my price range but surpassed my quality expectations.

Hello fellow board members,

here are some photos of the yoroi i purchased today, i got a great deal on it. It is a newer one 1980's? But is still a great piece. Might possibly be put up for sale if anyone is interested?

i know i have it put on a bit wrong but it didn't come with any sort of stand so it was rather difficult to snap some good photos so i tried it on. please give your thoughts/opinions. :glee:

Andy, you certainly gave my wife & me a good laugh!!

The do protects the upper chest & stomach, not the back, & the tare covers your cojones, not your butt!! Switch everything around.

Haha well im glad i caused a good laugh :D

Thank-you for informing me Ken, although i do not think i will be trying this suit on again anytime soon in this 90+ degree Minnesota weather.

You can imaging having to fight in 60 lbs of armor etc in the heat and humidity of Japan.

It's not quite 90 out here in Hawaii, Andy, but 87 is pretty darn close. My wife has studied kendo for many years, & wears her bogu three times a week to train. Kendo bogu (armor) consists of the men (helmet), do (stomach protector), tare (groin protector), & kote (gloves), along of course with the shinai (bamboo sword), bokken (wooden long sword), & kodachi (wooden dagger). This link http://www.e-bogu.com/In_Stock_Kendo_Bogu_s/28.htm shows all the parts, & how they are positioned when worn.
