peter Posted June 16, 2010 Report Posted June 16, 2010 Hi again guys, i have posted this blade before but wondered if anyone could add anything else, i found out from the net that it is a U no Kubi Zukuri, known as Cormorant Neck, thats all i know as yet, so was hoping someone could fill in the rest, era made, would be a start , where they forged the same as nihonto? are they classed as such, Peter Quote
machinist Posted June 16, 2010 Report Posted June 16, 2010 It looks like a blade cut down from a naginata called a "naginata naoshi". It would have been made by a swordsmith and them altered I imagine by a togishi from a pole arm to a wakizashi so yes it is nihonto. Sometimes a blade would be made originally to look like this and not be altered. As for era wiser minds than mine must answer. Quote
peter Posted June 16, 2010 Author Report Posted June 16, 2010 Thank you Chris and Donald, i will post an image of the tang to see if it helps with the ageing Peter Quote
peter Posted June 17, 2010 Author Report Posted June 17, 2010 Hi Chris, Is there a comparison mei as to date the blade, or would that not help? i,ve put a pic up, this is the same as the blade i have except i don,t see a visible yokote. Peter Quote
cabowen Posted June 17, 2010 Report Posted June 17, 2010 As someone has said, it looks like a naginata-naoshi....please look up naginata-zukuri for comparison. Akihiro is a famous Soshu smith and an oft faked signature. I would venture that is what this is....It looks like it might be a late koto blade....hard to say for certain from photos....could be early shinto as well.... Quote
