kuromido Posted June 16, 2010 Report Posted June 16, 2010 Hi All, Can I get some help with this mei. I can't find any of the kanji and actually think they look fake. I would not give it a much time if it were not for the blade and mounts which do look genuine. These pics are all I have seen of it so far but will have the sword in hand on thursday. What do you make of it? I Thank you all for your help and input. Sincerely, Peter D Quote
markc Posted June 16, 2010 Report Posted June 16, 2010 to my untrained eye it says "emura saku" markc Quote

Bruno Posted June 16, 2010 Report Posted June 16, 2010 Hello, How to differenciate an Emura blade made by himself or made by one of his students? Are mei carved "differently", I mean nakirishi mei or is it possible to make a significant difference just by looking at the blade itself? Regards Quote
Rich S Posted June 16, 2010 Report Posted June 16, 2010 I've had a dozen or so Emura. I just go by the quality of the blade. Generally, but not a certainty, the long mei are more likely by Emura. Those just signed "E" or Emura, some are by students, although I've seen several blades signed this way that were quite nice. I don't think, at least I haven't seen, a sure way to tell student from master. All sorts of Emura mei blades have been papered, so maybe it doesn't really matter?? Rich S Quote
