miner1436 Posted April 27, 2010 Report Posted April 27, 2010 Hey guys, I am considering buying this blade, but I was wondering if you could help me out with the translation of the nakago? http://img249.imageshack.us/i/uniforms029.jpg/ And what do you think of this,ō-suriage? or just late WWII crudeness? http://img29.imageshack.us/i/uniforms031.jpg/ Thanks Rich r. Basho12 Posted April 27, 2010 Report Posted April 27, 2010 I'm reading it "Kiyohisa," though I'd wait for more experienced people to weigh in. Quote
Tsugio Kawakami Posted April 27, 2010 Report Posted April 27, 2010 1) KiyoHisa? Signed tachi-mei. Looks like it was cleaned some, but I'm not sure... We need to see the whole nakago and some shots of the blade, too. 2) Need to see the whole nakago...this one definitely looks cleaned, to me. Won't know the age or original size with just a section of the nakago. Quote
miner1436 Posted April 27, 2010 Author Report Posted April 27, 2010 More pics of kiyohisa: http://img24.imageshack.us/i/uniforms027.jpg/ http://img685.imageshack.us/i/uniforms026.jpg/ http://img29.imageshack.us/i/uniforms028.jpg/ Do you think this blade could be from this smith? http://nihontoclub.com/smiths/KIY87 Should be getting pics of the other side of the kiyohisa nakago tomorrow. Tsugio Kawakami Posted April 27, 2010 Report Posted April 27, 2010 This Kiyohisa is definitely not that Kiyohisa. Also, seeing the pics in a different light, I don't think the Kiyohisa has been cleaned. Looks to be WWII made? Not sure. Quote

Looks to be WWII made? Not sure. I agree, the mei is not the same and the sword looks much younger than Nambokcho. Quote

miner1436 Posted May 21, 2010 Author Report Posted May 21, 2010 Does anybody have info on this smith? I tried finding information about him but nothing came up. any info would be appreciated. Thanks Rich r. Quote
SwordGuyJoe Posted May 21, 2010 Report Posted May 21, 2010 Yasurime seem to fit a seki tosho and there was a 清久 (Kiyohisa) who worked in seki. Pics of the hamon would help. I'd bet sanbonsugi. Edit: Link: http://home.earthlink.net/~ttstein/seki.htm Toward the bottom of the list. Quote
miner1436 Posted May 21, 2010 Author Report Posted May 21, 2010 It is hard to make out the hamon, I might bring it home with me on Saturday and post more pics. Also there are no seki/showa/star stamps on this one. Edit- After playing around with the photos in photoshop I have to say the sword has a suguha hamon. rich r. Quote
