Jason your right, the habaki and seppa look like they are snipped from sheet copper and once again there are no pictures of the tang or close ups of the blade...looks ornamental to me. Quote
Mark Green Posted April 17, 2010 Report Posted April 17, 2010 Looks fake to me. The fittings are a sure give away. mark G Quote
moss Posted April 17, 2010 Report Posted April 17, 2010 Jason, This type of sword is called faketana. It is only slightly overpriced by $175. Some people will put anything up for the Ebay punters. I think you are beginning to recognise some of the rubbish. Thats good! Take the 1.5 hr drive, you will learn heaps from handling some real blades etc Cheers Moss Quote
sanjuro Posted April 17, 2010 Report Posted April 17, 2010 Moss I always wondered what the correct classification for these swords was. Faketana, Craptana etc. Now I know I wonder what the Kanji for that is? Quote
moss Posted April 17, 2010 Report Posted April 17, 2010 Gidday Keith, I have done the Kanji for Faketana for you. He was from the chinese line of Crapitana so you were on the right track. The mei tells the story Ha Ha Excuse my primitive strokes. Cheers Moss Quote
sanjuro Posted April 17, 2010 Report Posted April 17, 2010 Moss. I love it! Sorry guys..... Moss and I are both Australian, and nothing but nothing, is sacred in Australia apart from freedom and beer. We are I am afraid, the Larrikins of the world, and very little is safe from our irreverent humour. Thankfully we are also relatively harmless. Quote
drbvac Posted April 17, 2010 Report Posted April 17, 2010 Canucks must be kindred spirits cause I find it funny too - However with no disrespect it is probably better representative of the Kao of all smiths who make the various Crapitana as they are usually hesitant to sign them with their real names Quote

I like you, dear Australians :-) I must by an atypical Pole (not north, not south, a Pole from Poland, no, not Holland), since almost everything is sacred in my country. Anyway, the Kao was actually what you get when you try to read the Chinese characters on such a blade... Quote
David Flynn Posted April 17, 2010 Report Posted April 17, 2010 Mr Moss, As an Australian, if find this most irreverent and distasteful. This also borders on immaturity. I suppose that's why I like it. Quote
