I just bought this arrow dart thing, probably an uchine for 40USD.

It was a bit of an impulsive buy and i know absolutely nothing about these.

Some comments would be welcome.

Age, use, etc...

Thank you

Hector, Sorry to tell you but you have bought a modern creation. Genuine uchine are fletched with feathers, usually two of eagle and two of pheasant, not staggered down the shaft but opposing each other. The head too is wrong. There should be a concave 'neck' below the blade adjacent to the tang. This area of both spear points and arrowheads is where most modern fakers go wrong. They think they know what they should be like but don't actually look carefully at real ones.

Despite the fact that Daimyou 54eb sells these repro's. They do also have the real deal from time to time. As mentioned before look for feather fletching and the narrow neck below the point. Its worthy of note however that not all genuine Uchine have that narrow neck. Some early examples do not have this feature and are still quite genuine. The wood also gives an indication of age and is usually not lacquered. Anything gold lacquered and with a solid fletching is extremely suspect.
