Interesting mokko form tsuba with brass zogan .

I have recently bought new piece.

Is large mokko gata form tsuba 10,5 x 10 x 0,5 cm.

This Saotom – Tenpo look like tsuba has interesting brass zogan design - plants motif and two major characters - my friend collector suggest that are sanskrit bonji characters.

In ura site above kogai hitsu ana are 3 kokuin stamps TEN (天)

What do you think about this design ?

Is late Edo Tenpo tsuba and Buddhist symbols ?

Kind regards

Mikolaj

Hi,

Yes, two major characters are cursive style(sosho) Kanji, not Bonji.

It is dragon and tiger,It is cursive made a design.

It has tail in those characters. Nice Tuba.

Thank you !

This sosho style inscription was very difficult :bang:

I'm curious if between motifs of plants and kanji symbols : dragon and tiger is some connection ?

Hi yogoro san

Ryu-Ko(dragon and tiger ),it means two strong men to whom the ability is nearly equal.

Dragon and tiger, bamboo forest and tiger, plum tree and dragon, bamboo and plum tree,--- those combinations are

most popular motif of traditional paintings of Japan.
