Hi.

Just thought I would share this tsuba.

Unfortunately it met someone intent on cleaning the "rusty iron" but at least it's not as bad as another one I saw.

Does anyone have an idea as to the manufacturer of this piece?

Hi Marius,

based on the shape of the hitsu-ana and the relief carved design which is then accented with gold and silver nunome I'd plonk for Higo. Probably 19th century. This particular "tsuchi mei" I've seen before too. Anyway that's just my view.

Hi Marius,

very nice piece of iron. I particularly like the quality of the iron carving, and it appears to be in pretty good nick. I'd suggest Nara school, quite late. It seems to me to have a little Kanie influence too, not suprising really, as by the time this was made Kanie was revered as one of the great early masters. His work is far more reserved, almost spartan.

regards, ford

p.s. are these pieces yours? p.m. me if you like.
