raven2 Posted March 13, 2010 Report Posted March 13, 2010 Hi, Here are my two newest pieces which I picked up at the Tampa show from the collection the Grey has been offering here. The first is a Heianjo from the Momoyama period with a ginger sprout design. The second one is an Ono from the early Edo with a rising and setting new moon. I really like this one because of the excellent condition of the surface and the fact that it is Mokume. Quote
watsonmil Posted March 13, 2010 Report Posted March 13, 2010 Hmmm, .... now I see why Grey was interested in aquiring knowledge re: " SMILIES ". The second tsuba pictured is undoubtably of the Smilie School a sub-group of the ONO ! :D In all sincerity, .... I too really like the ONO school ( a Ono School tsuba was my introduction to collecting ). The forging is always strong and give the feeling of a no nonsence approach to life. I fully agree the condition is near prestine and the Mokume grain most attractive. Very Nice, .... thank you for posting. Kind regards, ... Ron Quote

raven2 Posted March 13, 2010 Author Report Posted March 13, 2010 Yes Brian, I have thought that it looks a lot like that whenever I am looking at it. I hadn't realized that Grey had been asking about the smilies until it got brought up here. A little ironic I got the tsuba from him. Quote
