johnb Posted March 12, 2010 Report Posted March 12, 2010 Could this Tanto be Kamakura period due to it's uchi-zori, or is it more likely to be late muromachi? Quote
paulb Posted March 12, 2010 Report Posted March 12, 2010 Hi John, immediate reaction and opinion only But I would not think this is Kamakura but considerably later. Blades of this sugata have been made on and off throughout history. My first guess at this would be that it was more lokely late shinto or even shin-shinto basd on the very little detail that can be seen in the images. As said above just my opinion which is often wrong. Regards Paul Quote
johnb Posted March 12, 2010 Author Report Posted March 12, 2010 Thanks Paul, as I suspected somewhat optimistic on my part. Still it cost me next to nothing and I had a lot of fun remounting it. Thanks for the response. Quote
Jean Posted March 12, 2010 Report Posted March 12, 2010 I support Paul idea about shishinto, I had once a very nice gimei (Mondo no Sho Masakiyo) tanto clearly shishinto with a spendid uchi-zori Quote
Mark Green Posted March 12, 2010 Report Posted March 12, 2010 I would think Shinshin also. Very pretty mounts. Mark G Quote
johnb Posted March 14, 2010 Author Report Posted March 14, 2010 Thank you Mark. I find great use for Buffalo horn salad spoons and my wifes discarded silver jewelery. John B Quote
