Luthor Posted March 2, 2010 Report Posted March 2, 2010 Hello everybody! I have a signed wakizashi and I can´t find a proper reference on the net nor my books. If my translation is correct the signature reads: "Noshu Ju Kanesada" 濃州住兼定. Does anybody have further information about this smith? Any help would be great and !!! thanks, Lutz Quote
Jacques Posted March 2, 2010 Report Posted March 2, 2010 Hi, One thing is certain, it is not a Nosada one. Quote
John A Stuart Posted March 2, 2010 Report Posted March 2, 2010 There are many sue-Koto smiths who could have made this sword. It will be tough to find oshigata of the lesser known smiths of the period. Shinsa would probably give you no further information other than verifying that the signature is in concordance with the sword as a whole. Could we see pics of the rest of the sword, please? george trotter Posted March 3, 2010 Report Posted March 3, 2010 Did the person you got it from have an opinion on the maker? Probably about all you can do with this prolific mei/style/period is compare with as many oshigata sources as possible...it has two distinctive features: the "aki" radical at the bottom of Kane has all four down strokes slanting off to the right and the yasurimei are higaki (criss-cross). I don't know how common these features are however, but maybe start by looking in Malcolm Cox's Mino Smiths book and of course, all the others...you might be lucky. Hopefully pics might reveal a clue also. Regards, George. Quote
george trotter Posted March 3, 2010 Report Posted March 3, 2010 oops, radical strokes down to the left...sorry, old age! Geo. Quote
Luthor Posted March 3, 2010 Author Report Posted March 3, 2010 Thank you guys for answering this post. Have added some more pictures of the blade. Unfortunately I´m just useless in takin good photographs.( If there´s something you might want to see in particular, let me know please)... By the way: bought this blade in dreadful condition on a garage sale in virginia from a veteran´s widow. Did not ask for any information ´bout it. Sorry Kind regards, Lutz Quote
