Hi Greg,

It is not a moderne one, but an edo period tsuba (7.9cm diameter) that's my pictures that aren't so good.

But you could enlarge it by a click on it. Please see carefully the last one, that's the matter on this tsuba.

It is bent. So what? I would leave it as it is. Not a fatal flaw (at least that is what I think). I have bought a late Akasaka tsuba which was slightly bent and I have never regretted it. Maybe the NMB experts would like to elaborate?

Often unsigned Kinko tsuba are difficult to kantei. One should be submitted to shinsa, the other three are identified (Schools) - some are known by Ford and others - Here are four tsuba to kantei from left to right

Hi Jean

Have these 4 all got some major problem? Asking because they all look so nice.

Should we give an attribution or for example has one been repatinated, another is modern?

Thanks

Philip

I had a friend once who bought off a old vet a blade that he had chromed, tsuba also. When my friend took them to be dipped to take off the chrome the patina was removed too. The tsuba looked much like yours Dirk.

Good point, i collect russo mounts and have had a series of nickle scabbards redone and forgot about that. I always wondered how the soft metal could have remained intact in a fire. Your explanation has a ring of truth.

thanks

Dirk
