Hello all. If you are working on a  saya (time involved), without a shirasaya, is there something I can wrap the blade in? (that's easily accessible)

Thank you.

It is possible to lightly oil the blade then wrap it in cling film and place it in between light card to protect the kissaki, edge and yourself.

An interesting video by Paul Martin.

The one additional suggestion here is to use "strapping tape" which gives additional form, rigidity, structure.

Have you thought about using something VCI paper(brown paper coated with an anti corrosion agent)?

Maybe wrap the blade and store it in like a silicone treated rifle sock?

I know VCI paper is supposed to work well... but the underlying paper makes me nervous, since it is likely not acid free.  Don't really want a (very slightly) acid paper in contact with a nihonto for an extended period if the anti-corrosion agent dissipates over time.

I don't have much experience with them, but at least the zerust brand claims to be acid free and ph neutral

The idea of plastic wrap just makes me uncomfortable, ide rather something that "breathes" in case any humidity finds it way in.

However many shinken do come with the blades heavily oiled and wrapped in plastic....so maybe those concerns are unfounded.
