Jan Pirecki Posted April 19 Report Posted April 19 Gentleman, I wished to ask for your expert opinion while paying you back with some eye candy, I Have found this Noshu Seki ju Kenemichi Sword for sale, unfortunately there are no tang photos to examine, the photos could be better and the blade itself seems to be obstructed by preserving oil, however it still looks impressive, I thought that many of you would enjoy taking a peek. The blade itself looks gendaito, but without taking a better look at the grain one can't evaluate it to its fullest. The saya seems to have possibly been repainted, the blade looks genuine, with the trademark sanbonsugi -esc hamon of the smith being clearly visible. I have found him in Sloughs book, he was rated at 2 million yen, he worked in the Mino tradition, was a teacher to his younger brother Kanenori and son Kanetoki. I would love to hear your opinions :D Quote
Jan Pirecki Posted April 19 Author Report Posted April 19 I have requested a photo of the tang from the seller, I’m awaiting the response, it’s the weekend so I guess they will take their time. Quote
Lewis B Posted April 19 Report Posted April 19 7 minutes ago, Rayhan said: Jan the NMB has so many articles on how to photograph swords for your answers. Please study the numerous advice given, apply the advice, and we can help you for sure 😉 OP doesn't own the sword or have access to it to take better pictures, but your point is well made. Taking good, informative photos is critical on a forum like the NMB to appreciate the blades details. It's half the fun. Quote
Matsunoki Posted April 19 Report Posted April 19 (edited) Some of the replies on this post are great examples of how you put “newbies” off. We all have to start somewhere and some tolerance doesn’t hurt. EDIT. the replies to which I refer have since been deleted. Edited April 20 by Matsunoki 1 2 Quote
martyd Posted April 20 Report Posted April 20 I've just picked up a kanemichi shin gunto, so following with interest. I believe mine is a water quenched mill steel. These fittings are in much better condition than mine. to my very in trained eyes kanemichi blades do look stunning Must admit I made a half arsed post and in my eagerness didn't even headline my post with a relevant heading, so totally understand how people can get frustrated with us newbies.. 1 Quote
lonely panet Posted April 20 Report Posted April 20 the hamon isnt your typical style for kojima kanemich, thats raising my eyebrow, also the saya paint warrents a closer look at, i would be concerned about THE FRESHNESS compared to the frail ito. heres what kojima kanemichi should look like, sorry for the poor pics, they had to be dragged out of a oooooold usb 1 Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted April 20 Report Posted April 20 It may be the photos but the polish appears to be a recent non-traditional type. Not the end of the world, generally you wouldn't receive a proper polish on a Showato anyway, but if you're after an original war time sword then hold off. 1 Quote
Jan Pirecki Posted April 20 Author Report Posted April 20 Thank you all for your responses, I have sent a follow up message to the seller requesting a photo of the hamon and jihada as well, which is currently being obstructed by the oil, can’t decide to get it unless they respond before it goes to auction on Wednesday morning. Well I guess if they’re too slow to reply someone else will snatch it up, but o well collecting is like a waiting game after all. Quote
Jan Pirecki Posted April 20 Author Report Posted April 20 Yes Rawa, £1 - 1.5k is the auctioneers estimate, bearing in mind the 35% tax added on top, or 30% if you leave a commission bid on the auctioneers personal website and shipping/ collection associated fees. Quote
Rawa Posted April 20 Report Posted April 20 Look on this navy gunto: https://sword-auction.com/en/product/26428/as17080-katanatakeyasu-saku/ Quote

Jan Pirecki Posted April 20 Author Report Posted April 20 Quote That Kanenori katana is real pretty, such a shame its already sold, although shipping it to the UK these days would definitely be no fun, such things are very limiting. Thank you for the "spam" I enjoyed looking through them and having something to do after work. Pozdrawiam. Quote
