Kantaro Posted April 15 Author Report Posted April 15 Is this Chinese fake blade machine made? Wonder how old these things are? Quote
ROKUJURO Posted April 15 Report Posted April 15 Paris, they are of course factory made for mass sale to those who cannot compare to genuine Japanese swords. They are not "old" (how old is old?) but mostly made after WWII. In Japan, "old" swords are pre-1600. Fortunately, swords like this were made by workers who never saw a genuine NIHONTO but just blurry pictures of them, so they are easy to spot. The blade in question shows a bad version of a MEI, so I suspect it was not made in China where many people can write the characters correctly. 1 Quote

ROKUJURO Posted April 15 Report Posted April 15 Yes, I read about India, Pakistan and Bangladesh making these swords as well. 1 Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted April 15 Report Posted April 15 That’s an interesting point, Jean! Although, some of these, when translated by our guys that read Chinese, actually say a name, usually a current famous person. The offset mune is standard for Chinese blades, but I have no idea how they look on blades made in the other 3 countries. 1 Quote

This blade also came with a fake koshirae but with some interesting details. I will make some pics to show you what I mean. Quote
ROKUJURO Posted April 15 Report Posted April 15 Yes, you are right, it is all pretty off and ugly. If you look at the MACHI you will see that they do not align. That alone is a clear giveaway for non-Japanese manufacture. 1 Quote
Kantaro Posted April 15 Author Report Posted April 15 Correct, I also wonder if the mei on the Tsuba (Copper cast fake one) is also gibberish? Quote
ROKUJURO Posted April 15 Report Posted April 15 No, it refers to a certain MITSUYUKI, but it is not Japanese as well. Crude and not made with the typical techniques. 1 Quote
Kantaro Posted April 15 Author Report Posted April 15 Hmmmm then maybe the blade could be an Indian Fake and they bought a fake Tsuba in China to mount? They even sell them on Ebay...I do hope they got a cheaper price. Tsuba High quality Japanese Sword Guard Black From Japan EDO Antique Rare Old JP | eBay Quote
